A Level III inspection is the most detailed of all of the inspection types. A Level III inspection includes all areas covered in a Level I and Level II inspection as well as the inspection of the concealed areas of the building. However, the examination of the concealed areas is limited only to those areas reasonably suspected of containing hazards that cannot be evaluated otherwise. This level of inspection involves destructive action to the building and/or chimney structure.
There are relatively few instances where this type of inspection would be needed:
- As part of an investigation of an incident that caused damage to the chimney or building
- When a hazard is detected or suspected
