Homeowner Information

We’ve pulled together additional information that we hope you, the homeowner, will find useful.  These pages provide more in-depth material about the services we offer and hopefully will assist you in your decisions about your home’s heating needs.

Wood Stoves

Wood stoves come in three main types: freestanding, hearth stoves, and fireplace inserts. They can also be made from metal, cast iron, or soapstone, each offering different heating and heat-retention benefits.

When choosing a stove, consider your heating needs, venting requirements, available space, and required clearances from combustible materials.

With so many options available, choosing the right stove can be overwhelming. Bigger isn’t always better! Contact us for help selecting the right type and size for your home.

Pellet Stoves

There are two main types of pellet stoves: freestanding stoves and fireplace inserts.

Freestanding pellet stoves can be vented through an exterior wall or an existing chimney. When venting through a chimney, an insulated liner extending to the top generally provides better performance and helps reduce ash buildup.

Proper venting is essential for safe, efficient operation and compliance with manufacturer requirements and building codes. If you’re considering a pellet stove installation, we can help you choose the right setup for your home.

Relining

When relining a chimney, we first determine the type of appliance that will be vented through the flue. The most common option is a stainless steel liner, available in various grades and thicknesses depending on the appliance and installation requirements. For certain chimneys, we also use HeatShield® as an alternative relining solution.

Chimney Inspection

Chimney inspections are an important service we provide at Fireside Sweeps, LLC. Not all inspections are the same, which is why we follow NFPA-recommended inspection procedures.

The NFPA recognizes three inspection levels. Level I is the basic inspection performed during every chimney sweep, while Level II and Level III inspections provide increasingly detailed evaluations based on the condition and circumstances of the chimney.
